A crawler excavator' (or crawling digger) is a tracked vehicle designed to dig or move large objects and is classified by its mode of caper.

The many types of excavators contained wheeled, walker, towed and rail excavators. Associated with tracked tanks widely used by armies, these crawlers move upon the same rotating wheel systems but along with that have the ability to dig, pick and transport excavated materials as they proceed.

The tracks spread the vehicle’s weight over a larger surface area, enabling the tractor to draw a lower force per unit area on the ground. This allows the tractor to safely traverse over the moister ground like rich soil, snow, or mud. A variation of attachments can be compiled to the crawler tractor thereby maximising its usability. When a dozer blade is attached to the front of the crawler tractor it is generally known as a "bulldozer". With a loader attachment, it becomes a crawler loader.
